SPECIAL FEATURE

IN COMMEMORATION OF THE HAIKUHUT'S HAIGA
AND VISUAL ART FORUM

On October 31, Michael Rehling, the proprietor of HaikuHut, put out the lights at the Poetry Forums. Since their launching in 2002, these forums had been a showcase for haiku and related short form poetry, served as 'home' for resident artists and poets, and provided an online venue for poets and artists to post and share their work. From the beginning, the Poetry Forums included a Visual Art Forum. Over time, it became one of the most important venues on the Internet where artists and photographers could learn about haiga, exchange information and ideas, and simply share with an international community of like-minded practitioners.

In commemoration, and in thanks to Mike, we at Haigaonline have put together a collection of haiga by members who at one time or another over the past five years were active on the Visual board. There were a few people who unfortunately couldn't be located, but almost everyone is represented, and most of the haiga is work that was actually posted to the Hut.

We who participated in the Forums may have only a dim idea of how much a commitment it was for Mike to run this large and very active site for five years, but we all know how much we benefited, and we're deeply grateful.
