Moira lives in a small town, between the mountains and the sea, on the southern coast of South Africa. An accountant whose passions are writing and social issues, she teaches at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, George, ZA, and is active in volunteer work. She once wrote a column on Women Abuse for Suite101.com, serves now on the editorial boards of Women Writers and Moondance, and writes for Absolute Write.
As a poet, she may be best known for her haibun, renku and tanka; she has published in Lynx, RAWNerVZ and Ribbons and has work forthcoming in Australian and Romanian journals. She moderates the maekuzuki
section of the AHA Poetry Forums. These two tanka settings by Jasminka represent Moi's debut in haiga. The first, refers to Men Working to End Violence Against Women, otherwise known as the international White Ribbon Campaign. The second tanka, of course, refers to the AIDS epidemic that has had such a devastating effect on the countries of Africa.
