Eucalyptus were misguidedly brought to California beginning in the 19th century and quickly became endemic to the local landscape. One species, the Tasmanian Blue Gum, is invasive. In my yard I have three Eucalyptus nicholii (willowleaf peppermint). As gum trees go they are relatively well-behaved and have become a favorite nectar food of the native Anna's hummingbird. ~L.P.
