Haigaonline does not usually accept open submissions, but if you have an interesting idea, email us. We're always happy to look at what you're creating.

The Challenge for the Spring 2016 issue will be to poem Mary's painting in this issue's Traditional section with a short haibun or tanka prose.


Guidelines for Submission:

  • Entries should be a short haibun or tanka prose.

  • Your entries should be unpublished and not under consideration for publication elsewhere. This includes not only publication in online and print journals but also works displayed where others can access them on social media, personal web pages, blogs, and at online workshop groups and forums.

  • You may submit as many entries as you like, but we will be accepting one from each submitter.
  • Include "Poem this Painting Challenge"as your subject heading.

  • Please submit text, within the body of your email. Do NOT set your text within the image.

  • Email your entry/entries to the editor at

  • The Deadline for submissions is 1 February 2016.
